Workshop
This course will engage with the notions of work (ethics), time and working conditions, as well as financial policies, the thinking around organizational structures and how to handle multiple projects.
Developing a piece, searching for funding, building networks, generating tour dates and co- producers is a very practical activity that is very much based on learning by doing / trial and error. Looking at educational systems today, there is a landscape of high level arts- and in specific dance education programs in all main capitals throughout Europe. Plenty of artists are leaving these programs in search of: a producer, a manager, administrative help, people with skills, networks, knowledge, that can help them to find and/or invent systems to work in, to produce, to research and to make their artistic work and research visible. But what if, you don’t find this one manager and you (as an artist) handle all this by yourself?

I am providing a course that aims to offer insights and knowledge about different systems and methods in producing, encouraging a creative twist and implying, that production of art goes hand in hand with the artistic research and process and not the other way around.

We will be looking into money flows within the sector of performing arts, bring in different perspectives on producing, administration and organisation and question the current modes of production and presentation. How can we work within our todays’ system without copying it?

We will also speak about curatorial concepts and look at the different categories and ways how programs are put together, as well as at the various motivations and understandings of festivals / theaters in different cities. We will engage with the questions how decisions are made and artistic proposals are selected as well as speak about the frame around and the presentation of artistic work.
